What Is The Stink Bug?
Living in Norfolk, you’ve no doubt heard of the stink bug. You likely don’t know everything there is to know about the brown marmorated bug, but you’ve likely at least heard of the bug. Heck, given its widespread population across the state, you’ve likely had an encounter with the bug. Either way, there is so much more to learn about the bug than the common person knows. They are highly known and named after the fact that they emit an offensive-smelling odor from their glands.
Besides this, they come from Asia and were first introduced in Allentown, PA back in the mid-nineties. Since then, they have spread their population throughout the United States, including Norfolk. They can grow to be anywhere from ½ to ¾ inches in length, but don’t be fooled by their small stature. They appear in various forms of brown and are easily identifiable thanks to their triangular plated back. Their antennae sometimes feature white stripes.
Why Do People Have Stink Bugs?
Most people don’t know it but stink bugs are what are known as overwintering pests. What does this mean? This means that they hibernate during the winter. That’s why they are in the home. They are looking for a place to survive the upcoming harsh snow and frost conditions. And, if Norfolk is known for anything, it is known for its frosting and snow conditions. That aside, it seems that your wall voids and attic spaces provide the perfect environmental escape for these critters. While they aren’t too destructive, they are known as agricultural and structural pests. This is because they can do immense amounts of damage to fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
Are Stink Bugs Dangerous?
You just learned that stink bugs don’t pose much of a physical threat to humans or animals. Indeed they do emit that foul-smelling odor from their thoraxes, but this is just a smell. It doesn’t give off any harsh side effects and no one has ever reportedly had any adverse reactions to being exposed to the liquid. However, that doesn’t mean they can be destructive to your property. They don’t chew on wood or anything like that, but they can damage vegetables, fruit, and ornamental plants.
How Do I Eliminate Stink Bugs?
When all said and done, there are several ways that one can eliminate stink bugs today. However, one of the best and most well-known approaches is the vacuum approach. This just involves vacuuming the bugs up and appropriately disposing of them. While this will remove them from the structure, it is almost impossible to completely remove them from the outside. And, this is where you will need to start if you want to prevent the bugs from getting inside the home in the first place. You have to attack the problem from the outside.
Of course, this is much harder said than done, and why removal is best left to the pros. We are always more than equipped and willing to handle the job. All you have to do is pick up the phone and call our offices.
Can I Eliminate Stink Bugs Myself?
Given the current state of stink bugs in Norfolk, it is only natural that most property and homeowners would attempt to tackle the problem themselves. You combine this with the price of pest management and the timetable it sometimes takes to get a tech out to the home, and it is more than easy to understand why people take on the task themselves. Unfortunately, this is not the best approach, as the over-the-counter chemicals just aren’t as effective for pest management.
When it comes to stink bugs, pesticides and chemicals are some of the best solutions for handling the problem. The only problem is, while there are tons of products available to the general public, these products just aren’t like the ones we utilize. The ones we utilize contain much harsher chemicals that aren’t available to the general public. Such chemicals are illegal to the general public. Anyone possessing or handling these chemicals is likely doing so illegally without an EPA certification.
How Much Will Pest Management Cost?
When all things are considered, it only makes sense that one would be concerned about the costs of pest management these days. The only problem is, we can’t fairly quote you a price over the phone or computer. One of the reasons for this is because there are so many factors that go into determining the cost. For instance, the size of the infestation, how widespread it is, the location, the locations of your home, and a whole other variety of factors can weigh on the overall cost of your treatment. What we can promise you is that we will be fair.
Not only will we fairly price the job, but you’ll never have to worry about hidden fees with us. A lot of pest management firms like to quote a price, do the job, and then give you a bill for about 10 times what they quoted. This is not something we’ll do. We’ll give you a price and when all said and done, that’s the price you will pay for pest management services.
How Can I Prevent Stink Bugs?
Stink bugs although they don’t pose much of a physical threat can be extremely troubling. All in all, not a critter you want hanging around the property. Not only this, but once they have taken up residence in the property, they become all that much harder to eliminate. Regardless, this is why it is best to prevent the situation before it becomes a problem While it is entirely impossible to eliminate the threat of exposure to stink bugs, there are plenty of things you can do. And, this is something we are more than glad to help with. All you have to do is pick up the phone, give us a call, set up an appointment, and we’ll get someone out to the property within the next 24 to 48 hours.
